He said to them: "It is not for you to know the times or dates the Father has set by his own authority." Acts 1: 7
(Rhetoric as a) self object
Like I mentioned above, I am a christian and I do believe in apocalypse. If people think that or they think they know that this year and December 21st will be the end of the Earth, it is saying that this year and December 21st won't be the end, because of Acts 1:7 saying that it is not for you to know the times or dates....... And why do I believe in apocalypse? It is simple: the Bible said so. I personally think that Bible has high credibility and it has predicted a lot of things and a lot of them have came true. In addition to that, although the world is petty bad right now, it is close to what Bible mentioned and is not bad enough to be the end. Moreover, what are mentioned in Revelation of Bible are not here yet, for instance, I looked, and there before me was a white horse! Its rider held a bow, and he was given a crown, and he rode out as a conqueror bent on conquest (Revelation 6:2), There another horse came out, a fiery red one. Its rider was given power to take peace from the earth and to make men slay each other (Revelation 6:4), ....... I heard the third living creature say, "Come!" I looked, and there before me was a black horse (Revelation 6:5) etc.
World View
I believe that a lot of people are believing in 2012 apocalypse because of a few sources, for instance, Nostradamus who predicted (people think) the reign of Napoleon, the rise of Hitler, the atom bomb and the kennedy assassination. I don't know much about this guy but I just have no clue how he knows and if so, who gave him this power to predict. Let's talk about how people around me see 2012 apocalypse:
- Accomplish as many things as possible before apocalypse
- What is the point of knowing it? You don't know if you will be hit by a car tomorrow anyway
- It's a pretty good idea because now we all finish at the same point
- Oh my goodness, what can I do?!!!
Mirroring and Idealizing Relations
As I am confused by what mirroring and idealizing relations refer to, I think of what this issue is related to. I first think of what we have been learning from last week: Global Warming. If this year and December 21st is really the end, what is the point of watching An Inconvenient Truth? What is the point of taking care of the Earth anymore? Why do we still looking forward to new renewable energy? Second thing I think of is the topic of food. If we are all going to die soon and on the same date, what is the point of eating healthy as I probably won't get special disease or cancer in between now until December 21st.
From my own perspectives and as I am mirroring myself, I just don't care about 2012 apocalypse or future apocalypse because I don't even know what's going to happen tomorrow. I enjoy the now and believe that now is the best. In addition to that, though I am not sure if there is future, I believe that as I am investing enough in the now, it will lead me to a better now and future. What is the point of worrying the future? After all, it's just easy to say but incredibly to do so, human beings just tend to worry.

Great topic. Apocalypses have endured through centuries in the West--and somehow we're still here. A banner ad on my NYTimes site promises May 27th. Oh well, I get my birthday just before the world ends (again).
ReplyDeleteWHY the appeal? Are we magically defending against death by predicting it? Good luck!
