Confusing State

"Those who fund research- whether a company, a government agency, or an environmental organization-always have a particular outcome in mind" (pg 720). This quote has to do with reality, truth, and everything we learn, think, want, know because of exactly this and this passage connects my understanding to my interesing of characters and plot in this book because of an overarching concept such as this that I don't think will ever escape my mind. As much as some of the things are difficult for me to fully understand on either side of this idea or arguement what I find to be the truth of any unit in this class or idea such as this is that no matter the two opposing viewpoints on any argument, or concept we are always going to find ourselves at this point of questioning where our information came from and how or why we are learning and believing it in that way.... this leads me of course to my thoughts on the actual story line..

Of all the environmentalist characters I would have to say that the one who stands out to me the most or maybe gives me the most through provoking questions and thoughts is George Morton, and why because of simply his money. I find it always interesting that books, movies, and life prove to be that the dollar sign can end up being the persuading factor in almost everything as much as many people don't.This has to do with my quote because the funding has so much to do with the research and then exactly where and what is done with that too. I think that in most cases there is always this politic and fact that the money and funding is going to be important well you can't really get anywhere without it. The realization that projects, research and etc might not exisit without it is an idea we all need to think about constantly.

State of Fear as it has been pointed out in many of these blogs is an obvious fictional novel that has been written for entertaining purposes while mixing in scientific knowledge that has to do with global warming and the beliefs Crichton wants to get across. The way that this book is written can seem as though it is more of a lecture and science class than a reality than what one might think the purpose of the book at some point but when comparing it to that of a previous Crichton book from my fathers opinon (he said it did strike him as different). The plot to me seems like it could be seperate from the facts that Crichton spews out at points that it is almost dumb that they are a connected text.

Overall I feel as difficult as this reading is, the different viewpoints and eyeopening to even the presentation of this concept has really led me to even doing my own research on a few concepts to come to my attention.
